Happy Retirement

We had lost our previous dog to cancer, and one rainy day we went to the SPCA "just to look" at the dogs. We saw a very alert dog with a little gray around his eyes, watching our every move. His ears stuck out to the side and we called them "Yoda ears." We couldn't believe with his energy and strength that he was 11 1/2! He had spent his whole life with one owner whose work situation had changed and who could no longer keep him. At first we thought we shouldn't adopt a dog that old, but we spent a good deal of time with him that day and were drawn to him. A friend named Sully told us of the joys of adopting an older dog, and a week later we went and adopted our new family member! We named him Sully, too; a few treats were all it took to learn a new name and he had made the switch in about an hour!

He loves meeting people and dogs and has never met any he doesn't like. He is now 14, and while his walks are much shorter and he much mellower, he is still enjoying his retirement.
